Getting started
From "I just installed it" to "my whole library is in this app" in about five minutes.
1. Install
Pick the right build for your platform:
- iOS: three TestFlight tracks. Maybe Stable (recommended), Beta, Experimental 2am. Requires iOS 17 or later (StoryAlign needs iOS 26+).
- Android: Google Play. Opt into open testing via this link. Requires Android 8 or later.
Enve doesn't have an account system. You don't sign up for anything to use the app. Server credentials stay on your device.
2. Add your first source
Open the app and head to Settings → Sources (or the "Add source" button on the empty library screen). You can connect to a server, a cloud, or local files. Or all three.
If you have a server
Pick the provider (Audiobookshelf, Plex, Komga, Kavita, Jellyfin, Emby, Grimmory, OPDS, WebDAV, Premiumize, Real-Debrid, or Storyteller) and enter the URL and credentials. Enve stores them in the iOS Keychain or Android encrypted storage and never logs them.
If you don't
Pick Local files and choose a folder. Enve scans recursively, builds metadata, and shows everything in the library. No server required.
Mix sources
You can add as many sources as you want. By default the library shows everything together. Use the source filter in the toolbar to scope it.
3. Play your first book
Tap a book to open the player. The first time you play a streamed title, Enve will buffer. Subsequent plays are instant. To listen offline, tap the download icon on the book detail page. Downloads run in the background, even if you close the app.
4. Next steps
- Read about sync if you have more than one device, or you also use KOReader or Hardcover.
- Connect CarPlay or Android Auto for the commute.
- Build a smart collection for everything by a specific narrator, or every book over 20 hours, or both.
- Set a weekly listening goal if that's how you motivate yourself.
