Playback
What happens once you press play.
CarPlay and Android Auto
The car experience is first-class. Both platforms get:
- Library browsing by source, collection, or recently played.
- Search across every connected source.
- Now Playing with chapter skipping, scrubbing, and speed control.
- Downloaded books view for everything offline.
- Chapters as their own tab, so you can jump around.
On iOS, CarPlay uses a dedicated tab bar and scene delegate. It isn't a stripped wrapper around the phone UI. On Android, Auto runs through the standard MediaBrowser API.
Speed
Range: 0.75x to 2.5x. Speed is saved per book, so switching titles won't dump you back to 1.0x.
Sleep timer
- Duration timer (5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 min, or custom).
- End of chapter mode that stops at the next chapter boundary.
- Fade-out on stop, so you're not snapped out of the scene.
- Snooze on shake or tap to add five more minutes.
Equalizer
10-band parametric equalizer with presets (Voice, Bass Boost, Treble Boost, Flat) and a fully manual mode. EQ settings persist per book, so you can tune a narrator once and have it stick.
AirPlay and Bluetooth
Standard iOS audio session integration: AirPlay 2, Bluetooth A2DP, system lock-screen controls, Control Center widget. Nothing custom. Just the system done right.
Smart pause
Auto-pauses on:
- Headphone disconnect (wired and Bluetooth).
- System audio interruptions (phone calls, Siri, alarms).
- Route changes that look like accidental disconnects.
Resumes when the route comes back, or stays paused if you've been away too long. Configurable in Settings → Playback.
